The Chen Yidan Visiting Global Fellow program is excited to present the 3rd webinar in our Spring 2021 webinar series. On April 13th, 12 pm (EST) HGSE Lecturer, Gretchen Brion-Meisels and Thabo Msibi, Dean and Head of the School of Education at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa will discuss,Gender and Sexuality in Education: Lessons from South Africa.  In this hour-long webinar Gretchen and Thabo will discuss the emerging field of sexuality in education, especially as it relates to South African teachers and African sexual identity politics.

Dean Thabo Msibi

Thabo Msibi is associate professor in curriculum studies in the School of Education at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where he is also the Dean and Head of the School of Education. Professor Msibi’s scholarship is on the interface of gender and sexuality issues, particularly as they relate to education. He is also interested in the development of theories concerning African sexualities. He has published research in South African and international journals on these subjects, and has co-edited six journal special issues. Thabo has also published numerous book chapters looking at the educational experiences of individuals who claim same-sex identities. His recent monograph entitled Hidden Sexualities of South African Teachers: Black Male Educators and Same-sex Desire is published by Routledge. Find out more about Dean Msibi, here.
