Around Africa, Justice Defenders equips the defenceless to become defenders of the defenceless through providing legal education, training and practice. In a spirit of radical integration prisoners and prison officers are learn law side by side. Working hand in hand and guided by values of humility, bravery and solidarity, these unlikely allies enable tens of thousands of otherwise unrepresented defendants to tell their side of the story in courts each year. They challenge unjust laws and create pathways from death row to legal employment. 60 of Justice Defenders' paralegals have followed in Nelson Mandela's footsteps in studying law with the University of London from prison and now hold bachelor’s of law degrees.
